Dokdo in the East Sea is unequivocally Korean

Purpose
The Dokdo Research Institute aims to carry out long-term and comprehensive research and analysis of issues pertaining to Dokdo and to suggest relevant strategies and policies.
The Institute will systematically perform activities aimed at ratifying the incorrect naming of the East Sea and Dokdo.
History
Aug. 7, 2008: The 3rd BOD Meeting of the Northeast Asian History Foundation approved an amendment of the Articles of Incorporation and the organization of the Northeast Asian History Foundation regarding the establishment of the Dokdo Research Institute.
Aug. 11, 2008: The Minister of Education, Science and Technology approved an amendment to the Articles of Incorporation of the Northeast Asian History Foundation.
Aug. 14, 2008: Opening ceremony for the Dokdo Research Institute.
Major Tasks and Responsibilities
1. To establish comprehensive and systematic measures to address the issues pertaining to Dokd
To develop mid- to long-term comprehensive measures to address the issues pertaining to Dokdo and provide policy proposals.
To establish a cooperative network with relevant organizations in Korea and other countries.
2. Survey and Research on National Territories and Territorial Waters
To collect and analyze historical materials and other relevant materials that support Korea’s declaration of sovereignty over Dokdo.
To collect and perform in-depth analyses of materials related to territory and territorial waters in Northeast Asia.
To perform in-depth analysis of the precedent set by the International Court of Justice and the relevant international treaties.
3. Publicity Activities Related to the East Sea and Dokdo
To strengthen the educational and publicity activities related to Korean national territories and territorial waters, including Dokdo, for the benefit of the youth at home and abroad.
- To provide support for the operation of the Dokdo Academy.
- To provide support for the local and international activities of the Dokdo Guardians.
- To publish and distribute East Sea and Dokdo related leaflets and brochures in various languages.
To ratify the incorrect naming of the East Sea and Dokdo and to promote the use of the correct names.
- To contact and negotiate with international organizations, including the IHO.
- To provide support to and collaborate with civic groups’ efforts to ratify incorrect naming.
- To expand outreach programs with overseas geography teachers.
To Provide an Infrastructure for Domestic and International Dokdo Experts and Specialists
To solidify Korea’s sovereignty over Dokdo by establishing an infrastructure for Dokdo experts and diffuse the results of international studies.
- To provide support for the surveys and research conducted by the relevant domestic institutes on the Dokdo sovereignty issue.
- To secure an international policy study hub on sovereignty, including Dokdo, in the mid- to long term.
- To lead international discussion on ‘the issue of Dokdo caused by plunder and colonization’ through actively engaging in panel discussions at international conferences.
To support the establishment of an infrastructure of overseas experts, such as the fostering of a favorable atmosphere for international opinion leaders.
- To publish and distribute international journals on Dokdo.
- To hold and participate in international conferences and symposiums.
- To provide support for studies pertaining to Dokdo conducted by overseas scholars.
