What We Do

Dokdo in the East Sea is unequivocally Korean

Build human infrastructure of Dokdo specialists worldwide

  • Support and collaborate with relevant research institutions in Korea on studies and survey on issues related to Dokdo sovereignty in order to solidify Korea’s historical ownership over Dokdo and formulate a coherent argument for Korea’s case from the perspective of international law.
  • Actively participate in academic events around the world and host international symposiums for objective third-party evaluations of the basis of our arguments regarding territories and territorial waters, to foster a favorable consensus from international opinion leaders, and to support the development of human infrastructure of overseas specialists.
    • - Publish and distribute books and academic journals on Dokdo
    • - Hold and attend international symposiums
    • - Provide support for overseas scholars conducting Dokdo research

Conduct research and surveys on territories and territorial waters

  • Conduct archaeological survey of Ulleungdo to reinforce Korea’s historical and cultural ownership over Dokdo
    • - Collect and analyze relevant historical records and materials necessary for Korea’s effective control over Dokdo
  • Collect materials and undertake in-depth analysis to prepare for possible disputes over Dokdo and other territories in Northeast Asia
    • - Build databases with collected materials and research findings

Raise Dokdo and East Sea awareness

  • Strengthen education and promotional campaigns on Dokdo and issues related to territories and territorial waters for global youth
    • - Provide Dokdo Academy with operational support
    • - Support Dokdo Guardians activities worldwide
    • - Publish and distribute multilingual promotional materials on Dokdo and the East Sea
  • Support East Sea and Dokdo-related NGOs and heighten national awareness on Dokdo
    • - Support academic events for rectifying erroneous naming of the East Sea and Dokdo and raise international awareness on the matter

Prepare for potential international disputes over territories and territorial waters

  • Conduct in-depth research and analysis of the rulings of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on similar and related cases in order to formulate a coherent argument for Korea’s case based on international law regarding territories and territorial waters.
  • Collect and analyze material on relevant international agreements, e.g. United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea
